Whittlesea Show 2011

In order to raise awareness of the existence of animal welfare groups, such as TREW, we decided to take our education unit to the 2011 Whittlesea Show.

We took the opportunity of the Show to release our new branded merchandise consisting of silicone wristbands ($2 each, colours pink, blue or green), stubby holders ($4 each) and pens (50 cents each).

It proved to be an interesting weekend where we took the opportunity to meet and greet with members of the community and discuss horse welfare. It was interesting to note the number of people who did not realise that animal welfare groups even existed in the community outside the RSPCA. Not only were we asked about horses and ponies, we ended up fielding questions about dogs, cats and even rabbits as well (each animal was referred to a welfare group of its type).

Our display boards containing the before and after images of our cases proved to be very popular. Not only did it show the public what TREW is about, it was also used as a tool for people to compare horses they have seen in paddock throughout the countryside.

We look forward to attending more events with our education unit in the New Year.
