TREW Tommy - Available for Adoption
Tommy is a 3 year old miniature pony gelding. He was surrendered to TREW along with his paddock mate Mac and they were both collected on the 20th September 2009.
On the day of Tommy and Mac’s collection, TREW only knew that they were going to pick up a pony and a horse. Anyone who has met Tommy can confirm that this little guy is just that… little.
Overall he was in pretty good condition except for some marks on his head from wearing a too small halter, but those would disappear in time. TREW was told that he is broken to saddle.
But what he may lack in size he sure makes up in personality.
Life is pretty good for Tommy, lots of food, attention and most of all, room to move. This little fellow is quite a hooner and could often be seen tearing across the paddock.
But life isn’t all about eating and speed for this little guy. He had visitors too, in the form of the dentist and the farrier. Tommy behaved quite well for both treatments. He just loves attention.
Although he is young, we were told that Tommy is broken to saddle. He behaved very well once a rider small enough to try him out was found. .
ANZAC Weekend, 2010
Tommy was moved to his new home this weekend, along with his long time buddy, Mac. He has settled in well and rolling in the mud as much as possible.

Tommy - A Christmas Pony, 2010
In December TREW was contacted by a gentleman asking if we had any ponies available for adoption for a young family with a horse crazy young daughter. It quickly became apparent that we had a very suitable candidate. Tommy, the miniature pony whose youth was annoying his aging paddock mate Mac. A home for Tommy where he would be the centre of attention would be ideal would be ideal for the little spunk.
With the lease agreement signed and sealed, it was decided that Tommy could be delivered to his new home on Christmas Day!
All of Tommy’s Christmases came at once when he spotted the hay bales stacked in the float to keep him occupied during his trip to Daylesford. The hay served a second purpose, to keep the little pony from going walk-about within the float.
Tommy floated and travelled like a pro. Arriving at his new home, Tommy was met by a very anxious 9 year old girl and her younger brother. Tjana and Shannon showed Tommy around his new paddock, with the little white pony not hesitating when the children led him into a strange shed and blew bubbles around him.
TREW has been in contact with the family since Tommy was delivered and everyone is delighted with Tommy. He has settled in perfectly and Tjana is now riding Tommy completely unassisted and he has not put a hoof wrong.
Tommy Returns to TREW - November 2011

Spunky Tommy has been returned from his lease.
We are pleased to see that his cheeky personality is unchanged and he will be looking for a new home once he has shed some kilos.

December 2011 - Update
Our lovely little Tommy has come back into our care. We had been having trouble contacting Tommy’s adopter but he did eventually make contact following a written request. Unfortunately he advised that the little girl had lost interest in Tommy and he was concerned about Tommy’s weight. We decided not waste any time picking him up so on Monday 31 October we set off with our large horse float which was pack with hay bales so Tommy couldn’t get under the chest/side bars.
Tommy had put on an enormous amount of weight and we were told that he had been left out in the lush paddock for an extended period. Although I don’t think Tommy was upset by this and would have been very happy to eat himself to death. He was just the same friendly happy boy but extremely fat.
Back at our place Tommy quickly settled in and said hello to his old playmate TREW Max and new his companions Wilson and Jackson who are also on a diet. Tommy was a little unhappy for a couple weeks as he adjusted to not being in a paddock full of grass. He is on a diet of grass hay and every second day he gets a little chaff, a hand full of pellets, some lupins and herbs (sunflower, seaweed, rosehip, garlic and apple cider vinegar). We’ll need to get his teeth done soon and he’ll receive the normal worming regime.

His feet were also in need of attention even though we were told he had been recently done. Dean Fox kindly came out and gave him a trim. Tommy had separation of the laminae from the hoof wall. After his trim he was quite sore for a couple of days but by the end of the week he was running around being silly. He loves playing with his new big horsey pals particular Jack who is a 16h Standard bred who reaches down over his fence to play fight with Tommy who has to reach up. His also become best mates with Jackson, an Appaloosa and they happily eat together.

Tommy is such a lot of fun to be around. You can’t help but give him a cuddle. He’s also very mischievous, as he likes to remove my plastic tree guards that are on the over side of the fence and having a rub against the tape which is attached to the fence at just the right height for Tommy. That was almost a watery disaster, so we blocked his access to the tap. He is such a good “doer” and we are a bit disappointed in what happened with Tommy but I don’t think he has any regrets. I’m glad we got him back when we did as he would have foundered.
The next home for Tommy has to be a forever home that is knowledgeable about horses and particularly appreciates the need for weight management. We do not want Tommy moved around from home to home. He deserves a loving permanent home. After a month of dieting he is looking so much better as he has lost some weight and his feet are sound. He loves going for a run and kicking his heels up.
