TREW: Assisting the Community

Gerogery Hay Donation

Just before Christmas 2009, Gerogery in NSW, fell victim from fire. Quite a lot of properties were affected, suffering property loss and damage. Gerogery is 30 minute north of Albury and is home to a large number of equine enthusiasts. As the threat eased, offers of assistance and donated goods started to flow into the town. A friend of our TREW member Sammi, started to collect donated hay shortly after the fires. We (TREW) agreed to match the hay donated and all the hay would be transported to Gerogery by us, in what is quickly becoming, "the TREW truck".

The decision was made that due to a number of truck loads of hay being donated at the time of the fires, it was thought that (due to previous experience) it would be best to deliver this load later as the previously donated hay would have run out and donations would then be scarce.

Half of the hay was picked up on Saturday the 6th from over Monbulk way(thanks Tanya for organizing the hay from your supplier), and the other half collected from Whittlesea (thanks to Celia, Sammi and Megsie). The following photos were taken on Sunday when the hay was delivered.

Nice little town with heaps of personality. The fire swept through the whole town and there were a number of very close calls.


These are some of the ladies who greeted me and helped me to unload. Not pictured Michelle, Mum and Grandma (Oh, and me!) As you can see all have their TREW documentation! Perhaps the making of our first NSW branch?
I can’t not thank Mum for lunch and Grandma for the stories. I had a great day and I continue to meet the nicest of people during what only can be described as very trying times.
