Victorian Fire Disaster
TREW Relief Effort, 2009

Noticeboard - Week 9

Thank You

A huge thank you to Gerry and his team at Rochester Murray Goulburn Farm & Hardware, together with RELN Plastics of NSW, who have donated 30 large paddock water troughs.

Thank you to the tireless Sharon Cook, who coordinated the donation.

Thank you also, as always, to TREW Member Leigh Wren, who yet again volunteered his truck and his time to collect the troughs and deliver them to our Relief Centre.

...and because Leigh has managed to dodge any the camera for the past two months, we would like to publicly introduce one of the many, many faces of our Relief Effort, a man who many recipients of delivered donated feed will recognise, but who has gone to great pains to maintain a low profile throughout. Very proudly introducing Leigh Wren, who has zigzagged all over the state endlessly for two months now delivering gear and feed to where ever it needs to go.

Your Donations at Work

Your cash donations are filtering through to the community.
Much needed fencing materials, purchased by TREW with $10,000 of your donated funds, being collected by fire affected horse owners.

We know all recipients of donated gear, feed and supplies would want us to pass on a sincere thank you all who have contributed towards our Equine Fire Relief Effort.

We at TREW are humbled and grateful to have been put in a position where we are able to provide much needed resources such as this fencing gear, on behalf of the wider equine community.

Thank you also to Sammi for coordinating this huge order.

A Letter to TREW

Here is an excerpt from an emailed received from Marg and Steve. In it they articulate their appreciation to all who have supported the fire affected horse owners through donations. I'm sure that Marg would like us to share her appreciation with you all through portions of her email.
Thank you Marg.

Hello TREW,

We live in the foothills of Mt Disappointment, and February 7th hit us as it did many others, but we managed to save our house. We were very fortunate, as most of our horses were generally okay, with the exception of five. Two suffered cuts on their legs, and three were burned, particularly on the hind legs. One of the three copped it on the sheath, and fairly severely on one hoof, with a suspected laminae melt, (which fortunately turned out to be partial, so the hoof hung on), and the other two fairly badly on the face. One was very advanced in years, (around 38), and he went into deep shock on the Monday, so we sadly decided to put him down as the road back would be too hard for a horse of his age. Every other animal on our place was traumatized for some time after the fires.

The reason for the email is to thank you for all the assistance we have received from TREW in relation to our horses, and particularly Sammi Whitehead, who has been a life saver for the equines in my life, and I can't praise her enough. She has listened, sympathized, and done everything she could to make things a bit easier. Not only for me, but also for neighbors of mine who lost all their horse related things. She has been able to provide me with rugs for all the horses, and some much needed veterinary gear to treat the burns and injuries. As with most who were burnt out, we still don't have any fences, and have managed to farm out the uninjured horses, and kept the sick ones at home.

The assistance with the ongoing need for feed for all of them is greatly appreciated!

Through you, I would like to thank the organisation and the supporters for all they are doing for the animals who got tied up with this terrible disaster. The people who have donated things are amazing, and I just wish I knew whose rugs my horses now have, so I could thank them in person.

Thanks is a very small word, but it means a lot and I say it sincerely.

Marg Foy
