Victorian Fire Disaster
TREW Relief Effort, 2009
Noticeboard - Week 4
Earlier this week T.R.E.W Secretary Tanya Meldrum spent a day at our Whittlesea relief center lending Sammi a hand. We are all very grateful to the volunteers who have been spending time out there, and helping to bring some order. Things are looking great out there now, and Sammi is a little bit more freed up to help those who visit needing assistance.
The center has also become, at times, a comfortable place where locals can chat and share their experience's, which is very important. Not everybody is ready to do this yet, and there is a common feeling that the only people who could possibly understand the horror and trauma that many have undergone, are those who also experienced it, but all are welcome.
Tanya managed to snap a couple of pics through the day:
Time for a lunch break - from left Sophie, Sammi, Robert, Liam, Celia, and Michael. Missing is Ronnie, who left before lunch, and Jo, who arrived after lunch.
Robert and Liam are two young guys from Queensland who, upon hearing of the fires, hitched a ride to Victoria, tents in tow, with the intention of lending a hand to a charity group. One of the truck drivers they hitched a ride with suggested TREW, so they looked us up on the internet, got in contact with Sammi, and arrived on Saturday to help out. Sterling effort guys!
