To help horses without feed due to flooded pastures, Triple R Equine Welfare (TREW) and Project Hope Horse Welfare Victoria (PHHWV) have joined forces to establish a Hay Donation Scheme.
As with most of Australia, TREW and Project Hope have been shocked and saddened by the widespread flooding. Our responsibility is the welfare of horses and ponies.
If landowners in Victoria are in a position to donate your surplus hay, or you require some assistance or know of someone who does, please contact either Sharron on 0423 428 931 or Leigh on 0409 992 154 or Email TREW
Hay has been collected from several locations including, Tooradin, Doveton, Tatura, Modella and Warragul.
On Sunday 30 January 2011 a semi truck load of hay was delivered to Charlton by TREW and PHHWV together. It was a very early start for the volunteers who donated their time (and muscles) to load the truck. The hay was collected from Merricks North from three very generous donors. The semi, generously donated by the owner and driver, hauled over 430 square bales up to Charlton to assist approximately 110 horses and ponies. A Huge effort by everyone involved, as not only was it a very long day for most concerned but a stinking hot one too.
Since that initial load TREW and Project Hope have made further deliveries to flood affected families in Kerang and Swan Hill. Donated hay has been in the form of round rolls and squares. Some areas may take a while to recover whilst others take less time. We hope this hay initiative will support the local networks of country people who have made huge efforts to help each other.
These activities will most likely continue over the coming weeks. If you are interested in becoming involved in any area of TREW’s Flood Relief Effort, please contact us
Queensland Flood Relief Effort
Pet Stock in Bendigo is storing all the donated goods on behalf of Carrington's and Startrack Express is donating all the transporting of goods to QLD. TREW has made several deliveries up to Bendigo with donated items.
Most sought after items are hard palletized feeds, vetinary supplies (bandages, worm pastes, vaccines, etc), farrier supplies, fencing consumables (posts, wire, etc), rain sheets, brushes, combs, halters and lead ropes. Although general tack is less crucial, items will be accepted as it will be required at a later time.
Triple R Equine Welfare would prefer not to receive monetary donations for the interstate flood relief effort.
Those wishing to donate funds will be directed to one of a number of organizations collecting funds for equine specific purposes within each of the flood affected areas.
Please email or call 0409 992 154 for drop off point details.
